Saturday, 10th September 2005 was a great day for the Order of St. Augustine
worldwide because it was the highpoint of the second year of its three-year
Jubilee Celebrations. The occasion was the feast of St. Nicholas of Tolentine.
The Province of St. Augustine, Nigeria, gathered to celebrate this jubilee at
St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Ibusa (which is one of their many Augustinian
houses in Nigeria). On this joyful day three friars from the province: Revds.
Anthony Zabbey, O.S.A., Edward Daleng, O.S.A., and Augustine Ugbomah. O.S.A.,
were elevated to the order of the presbyterate by the local ordinary of Iselle
Uku diocese, Most Revd Dr. Michael Elue. This ordination brings the number of
the indigenous friars ordained to the priesthood, so far, from the province
the province to a total of 52.
There was great celebration and rejoicing as family members and friends of the
ordinands, from far and near, were present to witness the ceremony. There were
representatives from almost all the Augustinian communities in Nigeria at the
occasion.
The following day Frs. Anthony Zabbey and Augustine Ugbomah celebrated their
Thanksgiving Masses at Bodo City and Aboh, their respective home parishes, while
Fr. Edward Daleng celebrated his Thanksgiving Mass the following Sunday at Namu
in the parish were he grew up.
Il giorno sabato, 10 settembre 2005, è stato un
giorno molto importante per l’Ordine di S. Agostino in tutto il mondo
perché è stato il punto culminante del secondo anno del triennio
di celebrazioni giubilare. L’occasione era la festa di S. Nicola da Tolentino.
La provincia di Saint Augustine, Nigeria, si è radunata per celebrare
questo giubileo nella chiesa di St. Augustine’s parish, Ibusa (che è
una delle tante case agostiniane in Nigeria). In questo giorno gioioso tre frati
dalla provincia: i reverendi Anthony Zabbey, O.S.A., Edward Daleng, O.S.A.,
e Augustine Ugbomah, O.S.A., sono stati promossi all’ordine dei presbiteri
dal vescovo locale della diocesi di Iselle Uku, Mons. Michael Elue. Con quest’ordinazione
il numero dei frati indigeni dalla provincia ordinati al sacerdozio è
salito a 52.
C'è stata una grande festa e una celebrazione poichè i membri
della famiglia e gli amici degli ordinandi, da vicino e da lontano, erano presenti
alla cerimonia. C’erano anche i rappresentanti di quasi tutte le comunità
agostiniane in Nigeria per questa occasione. Il giorno successivo i padri Anthony
Zabbey e Augustine Ugbomah hanno celebrato le loro prime messe di ringraziamento
a Bodo City e Aboh, le loro parrocchie native rispettivamente, mentre padre
Edward Daleng ha celebrato la sua prima messa di ringraziamento la domenica
successiva a Namu nella parrocchia dove è cresciuto.
